I studied Fine Arts at New York Institute of Technology later working as an artist commissioned to paint custom kiln fired tile murals. Furthering my education and following my forever growing passion for home decor, I received my Interior Design Degree from Suffolk Community College in 2001. In 2003, after first working for a local design firm, I started, Barbara Rose Designs. Reflecting back on my 20 years in the design field, I have realized, I approach each room as I would an art project, applying the same fundamental principles of balance, unity, rhythm, proportion, and emphasis, to create warm and welcoming interiors.
Currently, I work on residential interior design projects ranging from whole house renovations to single room redecorating projects. I am a professional member of IDS (Interior Design Society). I keep current with design trends and products through excessive professional development classes, meetings, and training by company reps and attending trade shows. I love my field and write about it while sharing my design philosophy through my blog www.design2bhappy.com.
Interior Design is more than just creating a pretty room. Although that is part of it, it goes beyond that. Residential design is about creating a space that represents those that live there and surrounding them with things they love. It is about helping them to live comfortably and feel good in their environment. Having a home that functions well and that is visually pleasing can help us feel happy while providing us with a sanctuary to counterbalance the stress that life can throw at us. Our home environment plays an important role in our life.
